Possessive ’s

Possessive pronouns do NOT have an apostrophe:
Is that car yours/hers/ours/theirs?
(NOT Is that car your’s/her’s/our’s/their’s?)

To ask about possession we use “whose”.
Whose + noun+ verb…?
Whose car is it?
It’s my father’s car.
Whose books are those?
They are Mary’s.

Whose hotdog is this?
It’s Mary’s.

My This is my car. Mine It’s mine.
Your This is your book. Yours It’s yours.
His That is his pen. His It’s his.
Her These are her keys. Hers They’re hers.
Our This is our house. Ours It’s ours.
Their This is their class. Theirs It’s theirs.
Mary’s That is Mary’s dress. Mary’s It’s hers.
Its That is its food. Its The food is its.

We can use a possessive pronoun instead of a full noun to avoid repeating
words:
Is that John’s house?
No, it’s mine.
Whose pen is this?
Is it yours?
No, it isn’t. Mine is blue.
